Being in Dubai Scholars since the very start of my school life, every day we would have a quote written on the board and have teachers telling us since LKG to be kind and humble to others. Well those are the bases I have grown up on and this year when our school had the annual trip to the laborers as an act of gratitude, they had their preparations spiced up a bit.
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” |
The students of the senior school were each given a certain act of kindness to carry out, we did not only enjoy the process of collecting and planning out the act but also excelled in our given tasks.
The students of year 7 were chosen to showcase their immense love and compassion towards animals in the shelters. Each student got cans of pet food and these food cans were donated to all the various animal shelters in Dubai.
The students of year 8 showed their appreciation towards the members of our school staff for their continuous hard work because of which as a result, we are able to study in these comfortable conditions. The year 8 presented all the staff members with playing cards and spent a blissful time with them in the basketball field. When it was time to say good bye, the staff members were given boxes of food which they happily accepted.
Just before the spring break this good heart and soul cleaning event took place. Year 9s were given the task to make goodie bags for all those committed and determined laborers who work so hard in every possible condition. The goodie bags were appealing, bright and gave positive vibes all over the place. Its contents were as follows; a tooth brush complimented by tooth paste, a few napkins, shampoo and body wash along with anything the students would like to add from their side as an expanded act of kindness.
These goodie bags were collected from each student from every class and the boys of year 9 went on a Friday to present these lovely gifts of gratitude and respect from Dubai Scholars.

The year 10 had a blast planning their act of kindness- a complete, senior and junior school canteen!
from scrumptious desi pani puri to Italian pasta and our usual KFC with its ‘brother’ McDonalds accompanied by all types of sweets ranging from tiny cookies to mouth-watering cakes that tasted heavenly and roasted marshmallows accompanied by dreamy shakes and chilly Mcflurry.
The year 10 probably had the most successful canteen ever because from all the four sections, the lowest money raised was DHS 960 and the highest was DHS 1750. A pretty successful canteen and all the money raised went for the unfortunate’s aid.
After that, on our last day of school before spring break, our school was the host to a very down to earth rapper, Nimesh Patel or as he likes to be called, Nimo. Nimo entertained and educated us through his beautiful rap songs which flew our minds away with the soft melody. He spoke to us about some of his students and how life will throw challenges at you so that you can learn and grow but always remember to be kind to your family, friends and all the loved ones around you.

That’s not all, after school on the 22nd of March, our school invited Syrian children and Nimo, once again sang his melodious raps to them which made them very glad. The Syrian children were exposed to positive vibes and made new friends with our supportive DS volunteers. By the time they left, their spirits were raised and hearts were won back into the light of kindness and humanity.
"It is easy to talk about kindness and make posters, but to be kind and to act kind is different and difficult. The week was well planned and organized and considerable work was done. I thoroughly enjoyed it and made me feel so grateful for what I have and made me even more eager to give back to community"- Lamya year 9
"Kindness is an inner desire, that makes us want to do things, even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy we receive that drives these simple acts. When we perform acts of kindness, driven solely by an insatiable desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say and do"- Elena year 9
“In fact giving is better than receiving. The feeling of making someone happy by just gifting them the smallest things was one of the greatest feelings I've ever felt. I have so grateful for these men who have worked tirelessly to make sure we are able to live in comfort. We all owe them a huge thank you.”- Alizeh year 9
“Looking at today’s world, I always hear people saying that there is no room for kindness because those who are kind, are weak. Well that is utter rubbish because when I am kind to someone, it is the best feeling I can experience, it makes me overwhelmed to see someone smile because of me and that one smile makes my day. If it was in my hands, I would say our school opens up a tiny club or committee that works only for this cause.”- Bisha year 9
